My Son

To my son Ryan, on the day he first exercised his new priesthood calling.

I watched my son, with tear filled eyes,
As he passed the sacrament.
And thanked the Lord with all my heart,
For this soul, to me, He lent.

My Lord has trusted me to raise,
This precious spirit son.
To teach him of his Savior's love,
And what for us He's done.

To help him fully understand,
That he's a son of God.
To help him want to walk the path,
His beloved Savior trod.

My son has learned this lesson well,
And committed to serve the Lord.
To covenant to live his life,
To teach and live His word.

To take on him the priesthood call,
To act on God's behalf.
To serve his God and fellow man,
To walk the sacred path.

My son, though he is still a youth,
Has now become a man.
I want to tell him I love him so,
As only a father can.

I thank the Lord for His precious gift,
For sharing with me this son.
And know that He is as proud as I,
In the things that he has done.
